FAQs
-
We’ll start with a consultation to get to know each other. During tax season, clients will collect tax documents and send them to the tax preparer; once the tax return is completed, clients will e-sign their tax returns for electronic filing. If not all of the tax documents are available by the deadline, an extension of time to file can be submitted, which extends the due date.
-
The IRS generally processes electronically-filed tax returns within 3 weeks of the submission date, after which they will deposit a refund (direct deposit) or mail a check, which may take another 1 to 2 weeks. State tax refund timing will vary depending on the jurisdiction.
-
The due date for federal tax returns is April 15th each year; if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date will be pushed to the next business day. State tax returns are generally due on April 15th, though some states choose a due date in early or mid May.
If a client chooses to extend their tax return due date, the extension period is 6 months, moving the due date to October 15th.

The documents required to file a tax return will vary from individual to individual, or from business to business. Here are some common required items:
Legal name, Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN), mailing address
Sources of income: W-2s, 1099s, Social Security income, business income, investment income
Deductions, such as child care expenses, mortgage interest and property taxes, state income taxes, healthcare expenses, and retirement contributions
For business: receipts for income and expenses
Estimated tax payments
